Kalamata is the capital of Messinia where they have been cultivating olives for millennia. Over 2,000 years ago many Greek philosophers enjoyed longevity, including Socrates (71), Plato (81) Pythagoras (75), Epicurus (71) Democritus (90) Diogenes of Sinope (89).

Their diet which included olives, olive oil, figs, honey, herbs, fish and wine was the original Mediterranean Diet we know today, and with it brought longevity.
